🚨 **Wildfire Alert: South Wales Community on Edge!** 🚨
A massive wildfire has engulfed over 80 hectares of land between Abersychan and Blaenavon, sending thick smoke billowing across South Wales. Residents in Abertillery, Abersychan, and Newbridge are urged to close their windows and doors to keep the smoke at bay.
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been on the front lines since Sunday evening, bravely tackling the fire with over 40 firefighters. Challenging weather, tricky access, and changing winds are adding to their battle as the blaze continues to threaten common and pasture land.
Smoke from the blaze has been smelled as far as 30 miles away! Got a whiff? Firefighters are asking everyone to stay clear of the affected areas to ensure the safety of both the community and emergency crews. Only call 999 if you spot a new fire; an overwhelmed system could slow down response times.
Stay in the know, be safe, and let’s support our incredible firefighters working tirelessly to protect us. Keep those windows shut and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas!
