The closure of Manorbier School after a devastating fire has sparked outrage, with calls for a full investigation into how the situation was handled. Local councillor Phil Kidney has slammed the process as “appalling,” criticising the council for broken promises and a lack of support for the affected children and community. Despite a massive petition signed by over 1,500 locals demanding the school be rebuilt, the decision to permanently close the school was made last month.

The fire in October 2022 forced the school to operate from Jameston Village Hall in a temporary setup. Many hoped for a rebuild, but the council voted 30 to 23 in favour of discontinuing the school. At a recent council meeting, Cllr Kidney urged for an independent inquiry into the whole saga, highlighting the time taken, insurance issues, and HR’s role. He’s also seeking an apology from the Cabinet Member for Education over contentious remarks about students’ education quality.
