Exciting news for families in Wales! A new national swimming initiative called Nofio Ysgol is making a splash this autumn. Primary school pupils in Years 4 and 5 will soon dive into 20 swimming lessons each year, focusing on water confidence, self-rescue, and basic swimming skills. This important programme aims to teach valuable life skills while making sure our kids are safe and confident around water.

Rolling out over the next three years, up to nine local areas will kickstart the programme during the 2026-2027 school year. By 2028, the plan is for every school in Wales to join in! Supported by a whopping £2m from the Welsh Government, this initiative will tackle barriers such as transport and accessibility, making swimming lessons more accessible than ever.

The first step begins now, and it’s more than just learning to swim. This is about building confidence and ensuring every child in Wales has the chance to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle. Fergus Feeney from Swim Wales is thrilled about the partnership, emphasising how swimming unlocks a lifetime of health benefits and safety awareness.

With World Drowning Prevention Day on the horizon, there’s no better time to celebrate this fantastic move. Let’s support our future swimming stars and ensure every child gets the chance to make a splash! 🌊🏊♂️ #NofioYsgol #SwimSafeWales #ChildSafety #HealthyLiving
