📢 Attention parents in Wales! Big changes are happening with secondary school applications, so it’s time to get ahead of the game! 🎒✏️

🗓️ If your child is wrapping up Year 5, this news is for you! The Welsh Government has revamped the application schedule for those starting secondary school in September 2027. You’re now going to need to submit those applications in the first term of Year 6. The window opens in September 2026 and winds up by 31st October. Note: in some areas, you’ll need to submit by the 30th as the 31st is a Saturday.

🚸 Curious about which schools are performing the best? Start exploring your options now! You can check out local secondary schools, delve into their websites, look at Estyn inspection reports, and think about travel logistics to ensure you’re choosing the best fit for your family.
⏰ Important dates to remember:
– Offers will be made on 1st March 2027.
– Don’t risk missing out on top choices: submit your applications on time! Late submissions will still be considered but might reduce your chances of getting into your preferred school.
🤔 Applying to faith-based schools? Remember, they might have additional requirements and forms – usually available on the individual school’s website.
🗣️ Whether your household speaks Welsh or English, Welsh medium secondary schools are open to everyone, so don’t shy away from considering them!
🌍 Each council has slightly different opening dates for applications. Here are a few:
– Cardiff: September 4, 2026
– Swansea: September 21, 2026
– Newport: September 18, 2026
Make sure to verify with your local council for specific dates and details. Be proactive, stay informed, and get those applications ready early to secure a spot in the best school for your child! 📚✨
