🚨 Did You Know? 🚨 Those mysterious grey Royal Mail boxes you’ve been walking past might not be what you think!
A curious dad and his eight-year-old recently discovered just what these boxes are for after spotting one on a walk. With no slots or openings, the grey box revealed itself to be a bit of a mystery. So, they turned to the internet, seeking answers from fellow inquisitive minds. 🤔
The community answered: these are actually old-school Royal Mail pouch boxes! 📨 Once upon a time, posties on foot or bike relied on these boxes to store extra mail bags. Positioned midway through their routes, they allowed postal workers to lighten their load and replenish their supplies without heading back to the delivery office.
Though many of these boxes have become obsolete due to increased van usage, a few still stand the test of time in specific areas. A reminder of how mail delivery has evolved over the years, right there on your street!
