A 23-year-old woman from Airdrie shook the world with an elaborate scheme involving a fake pregnancy and a lifelike plastic doll. Kira Cousins, a former supermarket worker, had her then-boyfriend, Jamie Gardner, and her family convinced she had given birth to a baby girl named Bonnie-Leigh Joyce.

Kira wore a prosthetic bump, shared ultrasound photos, and even hosted a gender reveal party. The deception, which included a pricey pram and AI-generated videos, spiralled beyond her control. Kira said fear and shock led her actions, especially after losing a child and not being able to tell Jamie about her miscarriage.

She now admits her wrongdoing, acknowledging, “I shouldn’t have used a doll,” but also explains the complex emotions and pressures she faced at the time. Jamie, believing he’d become a dad, had no idea Bonnie-Leigh was a doll. He commented, “If I had known it was a doll, I’d have run off sooner.”
Kira managed to keep the truth a secret from her family too. However, suspicions rose when no one heard the “baby” cry. The facade fell apart when Kira’s own mother discovered the doll, and Jamie finally realised the truth. In a tense final confrontation, he walked out on Kira, labelling her a “psycho.”
Despite the drama, Kira and Jamie have spoken on the phone since the scandal, yet their relationship remains in a peculiar limbo. Kira even claims she backed out of a TV documentary on the incident over editing concerns. Jamie wishes to leave the past behind, saying, “I want to move on with my life.”
