Exciting changes could be on the way for how we travel around Cardiff! π΄ββοΈπββοΈ Cardiff Council is holding consultations to explore new cycling and walking routes across the city. Among the highlights is a proposed cycle path around the picturesque Roath Park. While this promises to enhance accessibility, locals have voiced concerns over potential issues with current road layouts and parking.

Councillor Bablin Molik emphasised the ongoing struggle for safer paths around Roath Park Lake, noting past incidents between cyclists and pedestrians. She pointed out that any new cycle lanes might require substantial changes, like switching to a one-way traffic system, due to narrow roads. π€

But thatβs not all! Other notable routes are in the mix. Penhill Road and Cathedral Road could see new walking and cycling paths, stirring conversations about balancing the promotion of active travel with existing congestion. The vibrant Whitchurch Road, known for its array of independent shops and dining spots, is also earmarked for potential developments.
These proposals aim to create a sustainable, user-friendly transport network. However, as Councillor Leonora Thomson highlighted, “the devil is in the detail”, especially on crowded roads like Penhill Road.
The proposed network aims to prioritise sustainability, promoting a shift from car dependency to more active travel options. Once the council finalises the Active Travel Network Map, they’ll focus on delivering these pathways based on their strategic priorities, access to important locations, and, crucially, safety.
The public consultation is open until 3rd August. It’s your chance to voice your support or concerns about these transformative plans. Let’s get involved in shaping a greener, more accessible Cardiff! πΏπΆββοΈπ #CardiffTravel #ActiveTravel #CyclingRoutes #SustainableTransport
