A chilling night for David Jones in Pontypool! Imagine waking up to the sound of your own front door creaking, only to find your car missing. That’s exactly what happened to David when a bold thief, Jack Heard, broke in, grabbed the keys, and sped off in David’s Ford Focus.

But the story doesn’t end there. As it turns out, David’s stolen car wasn’t just a means of transport—it held his mobility scooter and walking aids, essential for getting around. With these gone, David was left stranded and vulnerable.

Gwent Police stepped in fast. After calling in the theft, officers pursued Heard, who drove recklessly, reaching 90mph in areas with a 30mph limit! Ignoring flashing blue lights and calls to pull over, Heard took officers on a dangerous chase, even crashing into bushes before making a run for it.
And if that wasn’t enough, just a few months later, Heard was at it again—spotted behind the wheel of a van and leading police on yet another wild pursuit through Cwmbran, complete with wrong-side-of-the-road overtakes and near misses!
Cardiff Crown Court heard how Jack Heard, 28, has had a troubled past, but he expressed remorse while in custody. Despite launching a small business while free, his list of previous convictions, including aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, caught up with him.
The judge handed down a two-year sentence, with half served in custody, and a four-year driving disqualification. Life may have thrown some difficult challenges at Heard, including struggles with alcohol, drugs, and a tough upbringing, but this latest escapade has landed him back behind bars. Let’s hope this serves as a wake-up call and a chance for real change.
