In 2018, after noticing a lump, Kristine connected Flag’s unusual behaviour with stories she’d heard about dogs detecting illnesses. And she was right. Tests confirmed she had hormone-sensitive lobular breast cancer. Thanks to Flag’s early warning, Kristine got the aggressive cancer treated before it was too late.

The journey wasn’t easy—chemo had to be stopped because of complications—but Kristine emerged triumphant. Now in remission, she’s forever grateful to her furry hero, who not only alerted her to cancer but also saved her from a potential car accident later on.

Flag is now a trained assistance dog and a local celebrity, even earning the title of honorary mayor of St Marychurch in Torquay! Kristine and Flag are giving back, supporting charity initiatives like Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds.

Kristine’s heartfelt message? “I owe my dog everything. He saved my life.”
