Exciting times (or nerve-wracking!) for Welsh rugby fans as the possibility of a Scarlets-Ospreys merger is back on the table! With the Welsh Rugby Union planning to cut down from four professional teams to three, things are heating up. Cardiff and Dragons seem set for central and east licences if they agree to terms, leaving Ospreys and Scarlets battling for the west. Will it be a merger or will one emerge victorious?

For over seven years, talks of a merger have surfaced, with some feeling it’s the best way forward. But merging isn’t easy! Imagine deciding on a new club name, venue, and who takes the lead—it’s like picking your favourite child!

If a merger is out, a tender process could decide. Ospreys might showcase their Swansea location and past successes since 2003. Plus, they’ve got ties with Swansea University and even attempted to buy Cardiff. Deals, anyone?
Scarlets, on the other hand, have their impressive stadium, strong link to Welsh culture, and a knack for developing rugby stars on their side. But both clubs are struggling financially, with recent losses of £1.8m for Ospreys and £2.1m for Scarlets. Ouch!
The future is still uncertain, but one thing’s for sure: change is coming. Which side are you on, and what do YOU think is the best way forward for Welsh rugby? Let’s hear your thoughts below! 🏉🔮
