### Snooker Star Judd Trump: Life, Love and Fortune Beyond the UK
World snooker number one Judd Trump is set to take to the iconic Crucible Theatre once again, this time facing Welsh player Mark Williams in the semi-finals of the 2025 World Snooker Championships. Having recently defeated Luca Brecel in a high-tension quarter final, Trump, aged 35, now stands just two wins away from a coveted second world title. His opponent, Williams, is also in fine form, having dispatched John Higgins for his own place in the last four.
Trump’s journey in professional snooker has been nothing short of remarkable. With 30 ranking titles to his name, Trump sits among the greats of the sport, trailing only behind legends like Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, and John Higgins. Notably, he has also secured five prestigious Triple Crown titles over the course of his career – a testament to his enduring dominance in the game. However, despite his trophy-laden achievements, Trump has tasted world championship victory only once, back in 2019. He’s now focused and hungry to add another world crown to his glittering résumé.
Behind the scenes, Judd Trump’s life away from the snooker table has been equally eventful. The Bristol-born player has opted for an international lifestyle, now splitting his time between the burgeoning cityscape of Dubai and the energetic streets of Hong Kong. This significant change comes at a time when his career is still at its peak, suggesting a shift not just in location but also in perspective.
A notable facet of Trump’s personal life is his relationship with Maisy Ma, a celebrated figure skater and widely recognised television personality from Hong Kong. Their romance first came to light last year, although the couple have chosen to keep their private life largely out of the limelight, avoiding public displays on social media. Ma, who is ten years younger than Trump, boasts over 180,000 Instagram followers and has carved a distinct path for herself both on the ice and in television, including presenting roles at the Paris Olympics and various horse racing events, as well as corporate work with Mercedes.
In a candid interview, Trump explained the mutual understanding at the heart of their partnership: “She’s used to being in the limelight herself, she still does TV work. It’s a good balance because she knows what I’m going through, I think that helps as well.” Prior to this, Trump was romantically linked to United Arab Emirates show jumper Khadijah Misr, but that relationship eventually ended.
Trump has sometimes faced criticism over his flamboyant lifestyle. Promoter Barry Hearn once branded him a “part-time playboy,” a label Trump has firmly rejected. Speaking with the Independent, Trump defended his focus, emphasising that he had moved on from such tags and remained committed to his sport.
This year marked another major change, as Trump announced his move away from the UK. Despite recently constructing a house in Bristol, Trump decided to embark on a new adventure under the Persian Gulf sun, relocating his main residence and snooker practice setup to Dubai. At the end of last year, he acquired Hong Kong residency, ensuring a strong connection to both cities, although his partner will remain based in Hong Kong for the time being. “My main base will be Dubai but my girlfriend lives in Hong Kong. I have residence in both,” Trump explained. “It’s very different, completely different from what I’m used to… It’s a more outdoorsy lifestyle, living in those different places, a lot more time after snooker to spend in the sun, or go to the beach or whatever.”
Addressing the mental impact of his new set-up, Trump added, “When you’re winning it’s a lot easier to be happy… Where I’m living as well, it makes it easier to accept defeat. You’re a lot happier when you lose to go home.”
Financially, Judd Trump’s exploits on the baize have brought considerable reward. His net worth is estimated at around £10 million, with professional winnings accounting for over £8 million according to CueTracker. The current season alone has seen him earn approximately £1.46 million, with a substantial portion coming from his £500,000 victory at the Saudi Arabia Masters. With the world title race still ongoing, those figures could rise further, especially if he claims the top prize of £500,000 at this year’s World Championships.
As Judd Trump prepares for one of the biggest matches of his career, he does so not only as one of snooker’s standout players, but also as someone unafraid to embrace change both on and off the table. Whether it’s the prospect of sunny Dubai, his high-profile relationship, or the continued pursuit of sporting excellence, Trump’s dream life resonates far beyond the snooker halls of Britain.
