In a further development, enquiries quickly linked a black Audi to the suspects involved in the burglary. This vehicle was later spotted travelling towards the M4 motorway in the direction of Wiltshire. Gwent Police, with the assistance of Avon and Somerset Police, engaged in a pursuit which concluded with a collision involving the Audi and a Nissan Juke near junction 17 of the M4 around 2.50am.

As a result of the crash, police detained a 37-year-old man from London. The individual faced multiple charges including dangerous driving, possessing a firearm, and being equipped for burglary. He was subsequently remanded in custody and scheduled to appear before Newport Magistrates Court on Thursday, 22 May. Notably, he is also under investigation for more serious offences, including threats to kill and aggravated burglary with intent.

Despite this arrest, two other individuals suspected of being involved in the break-in remain at large. Detective Superintendent Steven Maloney, who is overseeing the investigation, has appealed directly to the public for assistance in identifying the outstanding suspects. He stated, “Our investigation into these matters continues and we’re keen to identify the other two men reportedly involved in the burglary earlier this week.
