**Robert De Niro Reveals Lifelong Commitment to Supporting His Children**

Renowned actor Robert De Niro has shared a rare insight into his philosophy on parenting, emphasising unconditional support for his children, regardless of whether he agrees with their life choices. De Niro, now 81, is father to seven children, with ages ranging from toddler to well into adulthood. His family includes Drena, 57, Raphael, 48, twins Julian and Airyn, 29, Elliot, 27, Helen Grace, 13, and his youngest, Gia, aged two, whom he shares with partner Tiffany Chen.
Speaking candidly in a recent interview with ‘Entertainment Tonight’, the Oscar-winning actor reflected on the complexities and rewards of fatherhood. For De Niro, the core responsibility for any parent is to stand by their children, especially as they carve their own paths in life. “The main thing is to support your kids. As long as they’re not hurting themselves or being destructive, you have to support them—no matter what,” De Niro advised. He stressed that it is crucial for children to feel the backing of their parents at all times, even when disagreements arise.

De Niro also shared a glimpse into the joys of raising his youngest child, describing Gia as “just pure joy”. Now two years old, Gia has reportedly brought a renewed sense of vitality into the actor’s life. “She’s two now. It’s always wonderful,” he remarked fondly, a testament to the enduring pleasures of parenthood, even later in life.
Balancing a demanding acting career with the responsibilities of parenting, particularly with a toddler, has presented its challenges. De Niro discussed how he has adapted to the realities of day-to-day family life, even while filming on set. During shooting for the television series ‘Zero Day’, he occasionally brought Gia onto the set. “You make it work, somehow. Sometimes I have her on set with my girlfriend. I’m lucky, I have a camper,” he explained. Such glimpses behind the scenes reveal the dedicated efforts De Niro makes to be present for his youngest daughter, despite a hectic work schedule.
Although the veteran actor admitted he no longer changes nappies himself—something he left behind with his older children—he does relish those quiet early mornings spent with Gia. De Niro described his typical start to the day, which includes watching children’s YouTube content (“Ms. Rachel”) and giving his daughter her morning bottle. These simple routines, according to De Niro, have become special moments that strengthen his bond with Gia.
Reflecting on the universal challenges of parenthood, De Niro acknowledged that family life is inherently complex and that each of his children would likely describe his parenting differently. “I try my best, that’s all,” he said, expressing the hope that his efforts will ultimately lead to his children’s happiness. His comments highlight the ever-changing demands of fatherhood across different stages and with children of varying ages.
The Hollywood icon has previously mentioned his delight at seeing his family united, especially as his children pursue their own careers and interests. De Niro cherishes moments when he is surrounded by his children, whether at home or enjoying holidays together. “The fact that they’d all be together is everything to me,” he told ‘People’ magazine. Asked about his favourite family activities, the actor replied simply: “Just being together, taking trips to warm places.”
De Niro’s outlook offers a refreshingly honest perspective on parenting—one rooted in steadfast support, acceptance, and the acknowledgement that each family navigates its own unique challenges. In his view, the greatest legacy a parent can leave is the assurance that, through every circumstance, their support never wavers.
As De Niro continues both his storied career and his role as a father, his approach serves as a reminder that unconditional support and togetherness remain at the heart of what it means to be family.
