A country lane in Pembrokeshire was shut for several hours after a collision between a car and a tractor prompted an emergency response and resulted in one person requiring hospital treatment.

The incident unfolded just south of the village of Tiers Cross, a rural community located a short distance from the key A4076 route linking to the A40, on Wednesday afternoon. Locals and passing motorists faced disruption as police and emergency services attended the scene of the two-vehicle crash.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 4.00pm, with Dyfed-Powys Police quickly urging the public to avoid the affected stretch of road and to seek alternative routes where possible. This immediate advice came as officers closed the road in both directions, in the interest of safety and to allow emergency teams unfettered access.
An air of uncertainty gripped the area as details of the incident emerged slowly. Emergency response teams, including paramedics and police officers, remained at the location for a significant period, carefully assessing the situation, assisting those involved, and ensuring the scene was safe for eventual reopening.
While the condition of those involved initially remained unclear, police have since confirmed that one individual was taken to hospital. Thankfully, their injuries are not believed to be either life-threatening or serious, though the person was transported for medical evaluation and treatment as a precaution.
The full reopening of the road did not occur until just after 7.25pm, more than three hours after the original collision was reported. The closure led to several delays and forced detours for commuters, residents and agricultural vehicles, demonstrating the recurring challenges posed by accidents on single-carriageway rural roads.
A police spokesperson provided a brief statement outlining the circumstances of the accident. “We received a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision between Tiers Cross and Bolton Hill at around 4pm on Wednesday,” the spokesperson said. “The collision involved a tractor and a car. One person was taken to hospital to be assessed.”
Collisions involving tractors and other agricultural vehicles are not uncommon in the Welsh countryside, where narrow roads and limited visibility can increase the risk of incidents. This latest accident serves as a reminder to all road users to exercise caution, particularly on rural routes where large vehicles may be travelling slowly or turning unexpectedly.
In the aftermath of the crash, local authorities have taken the opportunity to remind drivers to remain vigilant and to respect police road closures, which are managed carefully to protect both first responders and the public. While the impact to traffic was unavoidable, prompt action by emergency services ensured that the incident was dealt with efficiently and that the injured party received swift medical attention.
The investigation into the precise cause of the crash is ongoing, although no arrests have been reported and police have stated that enquiries will continue as standard procedure. Locals have expressed relief that the outcome was not more serious and extend their thanks to attending emergency crews for their professionalism and speed of response.
As Pembrokeshire’s rural communities head into the busy summer months, road safety remains a pressing concern, with authorities reiterating the importance of patience and care while traversing narrow country roads often shared with agricultural machinery. Further updates are expected as police conclude their enquiry into the circumstances of Wednesday’s collision.
