Motorists travelling in the area late that evening faced extensive delays as officers closed off the affected stretch of motorway to facilitate an accident investigation and clear the wreckage. The closure caused significant disruption on one of Wales’s key transport arteries, with traffic diverted and congestion reported well into the early hours.

Police have since launched an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or driven through the affected area around the time of the incident to come forward. Individuals in possession of relevant dashcam footage are also being urged to contact Gwent Police, as such material could be critical in piecing together the sequence of events that led up to the collision.
