**Man Dies in Multi-Vehicle Collision on M4 near Newport**
A serious collision involving three vehicles on the busy M4 motorway near Newport has resulted in the tragic death of a 68-year-old man. Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway between junction 25, Caerleon Road, and junction 24, the Coldra roundabout, late on Saturday night, 5 July.
According to Gwent Police, the incident occurred shortly after 11pm and involved three vehicles: a Mazda Bongo, an Audi A5, and a Suzuki Vitara. Despite prompt attendance from paramedics, the male driver of the Mazda Bongo, who was from the Newport area, was pronounced dead at the scene. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported among the drivers or passengers of the other two vehicles involved.
Motorists travelling in the area late that evening faced extensive delays as officers closed off the affected stretch of motorway to facilitate an accident investigation and clear the wreckage. The closure caused significant disruption on one of Wales’s key transport arteries, with traffic diverted and congestion reported well into the early hours.
Police have since launched an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or driven through the affected area around the time of the incident to come forward.
