A man has tragically died following an assault on a quiet street in Beddau, Rhondda Cynon Taf, prompting a police investigation and subsequent manslaughter charge. The man, aged 46, was initially found in urgent need of medical assistance after emergency services were alerted to reports of a cardiac arrest.

The incident unfolded on the evening of Wednesday, 9 July, at Moorland Crescent, a residential road within the South Wales village. Police and paramedics were dispatched at approximately 9:25pm, after members of the public raised concerns for a man’s wellbeing. Upon arrival, officers determined that the man had been the victim of an assault, during which he collapsed to the pavement.

Despite the swift response and intensive medical treatment at the scene, the victim was later transported to hospital in critical condition. Sadly, after more than a week of fighting for his life, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, 20 July. The man’s identity has not yet been disclosed, as friends and family come to terms with their loss.

South Wales Police acted quickly to investigate the nature of the assault. Following early enquiries, Luke Jones, a 35-year-old resident of Tonteg, Pontypridd, was taken into custody. He appeared before Merthyr Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 July, where he was formally charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal incident. Jones has been remanded in custody and is expected to make his next court appearance on 19 August.
