The newly introduced “Search for Santa” trips promise a one-of-a-kind festive experience, whisking families off to the snowy landscapes of Finnish Lapland and returning them to Wales on the same evening. With these direct flights departing on 11 December 2026, families will have the unique opportunity to meet Father Christmas in his wintry homeland, all within a single day.

Priced from £750 per person, the package offers a comprehensive festive itinerary. Return flights are included, complete with in-flight meals — with a hearty roast dinner served on the journey home. Each child will enjoy a private audience with Santa Claus and receive a special gift, ensuring magical memories are made.

Lee Smith, Head of Business Development at Cardiff Airport, expressed enthusiasm for TUI’s decision to operate out of the Welsh capital. “We’re absolutely delighted that TUI is bringing the magic of Lapland to families in Wales. This unique opportunity allows our customers to discover the wonders of the Arctic Circle, from meeting Santa and his elves to exploring breath-taking snow-covered scenery. Our customers have frequently requested flights to Lapland, so we are thrilled to see this addition to our winter schedule.”

TUI’s Lapland day trips will be offered from a total of eleven regional UK airports, including established departures from Manchester, London Gatwick, Newcastle, Birmingham and others, while flights from Bournemouth will also be reinstated after a hiatus since 2019. The rollout of direct flights from Cardiff signifies the first opportunity for Welsh families to take part in this holiday adventure without needing to travel further afield.

In addition to the inclusive return flights and meals, the package provides all essential thermal clothing to prepare travellers for Arctic temperatures. During their time in Lapland, families will enjoy a hot lunch at Santa’s Village, as well as complimentary transfers between activities, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience.

The itinerary is designed to offer an immersive day in the winter wonderland of Lapland. After enjoying a traditional cooked breakfast onboard while en route to Kittilä, guests will don snowsuits and boots before exploring the enchanting Snow Village. Here, visitors can marvel at an ice hotel complete with igloo-like rooms, an ice bar, and intricate ice sculptures.

A variety of snowy activities await: families can take part in reindeer sleigh rides through frosted forests, embark on a husky-led adventure traversing the Lapland countryside, and even experience snowmobiling under expert guidance. Amid these experiences, guests have the opportunity to listen to traditional Arctic storytelling, connecting with Lapland locals and learning about the region’s unique folklore.

The highlight of the day is, of course, a private encounter with Father Christmas himself. Children will travel by skidoo through woodland trails to Santa’s cabin, where they’ll not only meet the man in red, but also be taught how to greet him in Finnish by his jovial elves. Wrapping up the magical day are opportunities for snowball fights, sledging, and building snowmen, with the chance to warm up beside a crackling campfire while enjoying hot berry juice.

After a memorable day of adventure and cheer, Santa’s helpers escort families back to the airport for the return flight to Cardiff, with a Christmas dinner served in the skies. It’s a whirlwind celebration of the season and an opportunity to create lasting family memories – all within reach for those living in Wales.

TUI’s commercial director Chris Logan commented on the launch: “Our much-loved ‘Search for Santa’ day trips are back, and with expanded departures from regional airports, it’s never been easier for families to experience the festive magic of Lapland. We’re delighted to make these special moments accessible to more people across the UK.”

As the airline industry continues its post-pandemic recovery, Cardiff Airport’s partnership with TUI for this festive experience signals a welcome boost for local tourism and travel, while offering families a hassle-free way to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Christmas adventure.
