**Carmarthen’s Jasmine Thai: A Rising Star in Welsh Cuisine and Wellness**

In a small market town famed for its rich Welsh heritage, an unlikely contender has quickly become one of Carmarthen’s most celebrated culinary destinations. Jasmine Thai Takeaway & Restaurant, which nestles on Water Street, has gone from a newcomer to a top-rated establishment in less than two years, capturing the tastebuds and imaginations of locals and visitors alike. But it’s not just the fragrant curries or fresh stir-fries that set this eatery apart; upstairs, patrons will find a massage studio, creating a unique fusion of food and relaxation under one roof.

The restaurant, founded in early 2024, began its journey modestly as a Thai takeaway. Co-owners Robbie Done, formerly employed in the building trade, and his wife Jasmine, a trained Thai massage therapist, had initially planned for separate ventures: massage therapy next door, and Thai food from a food truck. Their ambitions, however, quickly outgrew their original plans, fuelled by an enthusiastic local response.

The popularity was noticeable almost instantly. Within months, the business expanded, first by offering sit-down dining and soon after by opening Love Thai Massage on the upper floor of their premises. This distinctive dual offering allows customers to enjoy a truly holistic experience: after a traditional Thai massage, diners can descend to a vibrant dining room for an authentic meal crafted from family recipes and made with fresh ingredients.
Jasmine Thai has swiftly become an adored fixture among Carmarthen’s food scene. On Tripadvisor, it currently boasts an impressive 4.9 out of 5-star rating, with a remarkable 94% of reviewers marking their experience as ‘excellent.’ Comments highlight not only the “incredible flavours” of signature Thai curries but also the personal warmth of the welcome and the accommodating environment for a range of dietary needs.
Owner-manager Robbie Done credits the success to a combination of authenticity and community spirit. Reflecting on their expansion, Robbie described the original massage studio, which was so popular that it soon required additional staff. The marriage of food and wellness evolved naturally—by moving both businesses into one historic building that previously housed a popular pub, Robbie seized on the opportunity to offer something distinctly different to the local scene.
The food, described by regulars as fresh and generously portioned, mirrors Jasmine’s commitment to delivering the flavours of her homeland. Stir-fries, aromatic curries, and starters such as prawn tempura and crispy garlic chicken populate a menu designed to both comfort and excite. “We don’t reheat anything,” Robbie explains, emphasising that every dish is prepared to order from scratch.
This momentum in Carmarthen has enabled further ambitions to take root. Robbie and his family are preparing to broaden their culinary reach with the opening of Noodle 101, a noodle bar set to arrive soon in the town’s market. Meanwhile, an expansion at Jasmine Thai will see a new back room open to seat even more diners, demonstrating the continued appetite for Asian cuisine in west Wales.
Convenience has not led to any compromise in quality, insist the couple. “We travel to Cardiff every Monday for specialist produce and support local shops daily for the freshest ingredients,” says Robbie, underscoring the family’s dedication to maintaining high standards and an authentic Thai taste. As demand grows, their focus remains steadfast: to deliver a complete and memorable experience for each guest.
Jasmine Thai’s story is not just about food, nor just about wellness—it’s a testament to community, adaptability, and a belief in the combined power of tradition and innovation. As their reputation continues to soar, it’s clear that for the Dones and the people of Carmarthen, the adventure is only just beginning.
