**Police Launch Major Investigation After Child Assault at Highland Campsite**
A significant police operation is underway following the sexual assault of an eight-year-old boy in his tent at a popular Scottish campsite. The incident, which took place at Loch Ness Bay campsite near Drumnadrochit in the Highlands during the early hours of Thursday, 31 July, has prompted a widespread investigation involving extensive resources.
Officers have reportedly collected over 1,500 hours of CCTV footage from both public and private sources as they work to uncover crucial evidence. In addition to scouring video recordings for leads, law enforcement officials have carried out door-to-door inquiries at nearly 100 properties in the local area. According to official reports, the perpetrator entered the child’s tent between around 12.20am and 1am on the day of the assault. The boy’s family were sleeping nearby in a neighbouring tent. Police have previously indicated that the boy’s father spotted the suspect leaving the vicinity shortly after the attack, even engaging in a brief exchange before the man walked away.
One week on from the distressing incident, Police Scotland has reiterated the scale of the resources being allocated to the search, with detectives describing the operation as both “extensive” and involving specialist units from across the country. Investigators continue to trace those who were visiting or staying at the campsite at the time, urging anyone who may have seen anything unusual to come forward.
Detective Superintendent Calum Smith commented on the progress of the investigation, stating, “Significant resources have been dedicated to this case. The public response so far has been encouraging, but we still need further assistance.” He added, “You may recall someone matching the description in the area – even the smallest detail could be vital for our inquiry.”
The suspect in question is described as a white male, aged between 35 and 50, approximately 5ft 10in tall, and bald. Police have made this information public in the hope that it may jog the memory of any potential witnesses who were in the vicinity that night. The family involved continue to receive support from specialist officers, with the child understandably described as “traumatised and upset” in the wake of the event.
Superintendent Judy Hill recognised the impact such a crime could have on the local community, expressing her gratitude for the assistance already received. “We realise this incident is both deeply upsetting and concerning for residents and visitors alike.
