Former Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison has highlighted what he believes is a crucial move for the team in the transfer window. He reckons that the club needs to strengthen its backline by bringing in seasoned leaders who can guide the promising young squad.
Despite starting the season strong with a win against Peterborough, Cardiff stumbled to a draw at Port Vale, which manager Brian Barry-Murphy admitted was a lucky escape. With only goalkeeper Nathan Trott brought in during this window and 13 players having left, there’s a focus on youth. However, Morrison insists that a mix of experienced players is essential for consistency.
“Brian wants three or four signings,” Morrison said on Sky Sports, emphasising the need for seasoned players in the team, especially at the back. He suggests that adding players who can control the game, especially during set-pieces, would address some of their defensive vulnerabilities.
Cardiff might be unbeaten so far, but Morrison points out that this is just the start of Barry-Murphy’s project. There’s plenty of time for the manager to shape the squad and get fans onboard with his vision.
