A deeply troubling case has come to light involving William Doheny from Barry, sentenced for sexually abusing a young girl when he was a minor himself. The offences, which took place several years ago, involved Doheny playing “games” that turned disturbingly inappropriate. Swansea Crown Court heard that Doheny, now 20, manipulated the victim into believing she needed to learn “how to make out” as part of this abuse.

The victim’s impact statement bravely shared in court reveals the long-lasting trauma she suffered. She described feelings of immense vulnerability and the terrifying ordeal of reporting the crime. Her courage shines through, despite being haunted by thoughts of guilt and deep distress.

Doheny, having pleaded guilty to several charges, received a two-year community order. This includes completing a rehabilitation course and undertaking 250 hours of unpaid work. A restraining order now prevents him from contacting his victim for five years.

This case highlights the importance of supporting survivors and recognising the enduring impact of abuse. The victim’s bravery in coming forward is commendable, and we hope she continues to find strength and healing in the aftermath of such a traumatic experience.
