As of today, 10 stores have already bid farewell, including locations in Ammanford, Birmingham Fort, and Tunbridge Wells. These closures are part of a strategy that will see almost 70 shops shutting by mid-October, trimming about 10% of Poundland’s 800 locations.

Gordon Brothers, who purchased Poundland in June for a nominal sum, is committed to turning things around with an £80 million investment. Their goal? To get the beloved discount retailer back on track amidst challenges like decreasing sales and increasing costs.

More store closures are lined up for August 17, 24, and 31, with the final one in this wave at Irvine’s Rivergate Shopping Centre on September 14.

Retail boss Darren MacDonald shared, “It’s regrettable to close some stores, but necessary for our turnaround plan. We’re grateful for our customers’ understanding and hope to serve them at other locations.”
