Exciting news for Cardigan! Plans have been approved to build a bigger, better Aldi store on Bath House Road, making shopping not only more convenient but safer for everyone. The current store’s access has been nothing short of a nightmare, causing serious concerns among locals. “Access to the Aldi we have now is horrendous, I’m surprised no-one has been killed,” said Ward Councillor Sian Maehrlein, echoing the relief that many will feel with this move.

The new Aldi will be 53% larger and promises a smoother, more accessible shopping experience. Plus, it’s set to create roughly 10 new jobs with additional opportunities arising during its construction and ongoing maintenance. What’s more, Aldi is investing over £6 million into the local economy, giving our beloved town a competitive edge and enhancing consumer choice.
This new development shares its location with an approved Home Bargains outlet, ensuring a dynamic shopping area that encourages more foot traffic and supports local businesses. The move is designed to retain local spending that currently goes to out-of-town stores.

While the existing store will close, Aldi plans for the site to be re-purposed rather than remain a food retailer, ensuring no market competition issues. The current team of 39 staff members will stay, so familiar faces will continue to greet you. Great news all around for Cardigan! Can’t wait to see how our community will grow with this fresh new addition. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses. 🎉🛒
