In a bizarre twist straight out of a crime novel, a 23-year-old Californian woman, Jamie Choi, thought she could pull a fast one by smuggling crack cocaine into the UK… inside a giant wheel of Parmesan cheese! 🧀✈️

Choi’s journey was as complex as her plan—flying from Los Angeles to Lima, then to Paraguay, and finally landing at Heathrow Airport via Brazil. Her craftiness, however, was no match for Border Force officers at Heathrow, who stopped her with what seemed to be an ordinary 8kg cheese wheel. To their surprise, inside was crack cocaine boasting a high purity of 94%, valued at a whopping £800,000!

Caught red-handed, Choi had quite the story. She claimed a friend wanted to try some “authentic” Parmesan from Peru. But with the evidence stacked against her—including a notebook entry about her travels dated the very day she left Lima—her defence crumbled like cheddar.

The courts were not amused. Admitting her guilt to the importation of Class A drugs, Choi now faces the music with a sentence of five years and three months.

Barry Vinall, a senior official at the National Crime Agency, weighed in: “Smuggling cocaine in this unusual manner shows the lengths people will go, but rest assured, our teams are always ready to sniff out illicit substances, no matter the guise.”
