Imagine using your parents’ life savings for holidays! Brett Conway, a 66-year-old from Wiltshire, has been sentenced to six years and eight months in jail after pinching over £50,000 from his elderly parents. This money, meant for their care, funded his lavish lifestyle while leaving his mother in need of a care home.

Overflowing with debts, Conway claimed the stolen cash was for home improvements but splurged it on luxury escapes instead. Even more shocking, he tried to silence his parents and ex-partner who dared speak up, bullying them into dropping the charges. Imagine the betrayal your parents must’ve felt!

Despite his attempts to derail justice with threats and deceit, the courts saw through his schemes. Conway’s brazen behaviour didn’t stop at theft; he waged a relentless and ugly campaign against anyone in his way.
Wiltshire Police spent considerable time piecing together his manipulation, leading to his charges of theft and perverting the course of justice. Thankfully, justice prevailed, though heartbreakingly, his parents passed away before seeing the court’s decision. Efforts are now underway to recover the funds via the Proceeds of Crime Act.
A poignant reminder of the importance of safeguarding loved ones from financial abuse. Let’s hope a lesson has been learnt and that those vulnerable to manipulation find protection and justice.
