Woman convicted for neglecting pet dog, hiding remains under clothing

A shocking case of animal neglect in Neath has led to a woman being sentenced to 26 weeks in prison and banned for life from owning animals. Jessica Edwards was found guilty of allowing her dog, Areo the spaniel, to starve for up to four months. Areo’s emaciated body was discovered under a jacket in her kitchen, leaving RSPCA officers and vets horrified by the level of neglect.

Described by the RSPCA as one of the worst cases they’ve ever encountered, the spaniel’s tragic condition was heartbreaking. His bones were visible, and a vet rated his body condition as one out of nine, highlighting the extreme starvation he endured.

Despite denying any wrongdoing, Edwards was convicted at Swansea Magistrates Court of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and failing to meet an animal’s basic needs.
