A teaching assistant at Llanelli’s Ysgol Y Bryn primary school, Olguta “Holly” Hilde, admitted to withdrawing £1,000 using the bank card of a dying woman she cared for. The elderly woman, Noreen Caulfield, sadly passed away from sepsis in July. Hilde, who helped Mrs. Caulfield with errands, used the card six times before returning the money only after being confronted by the family.

In a recorded call, Hilde confessed: “I got carried away… I will pay the money back.” She later apologised via WhatsApp, admitting her actions were “stupid” and left her feeling “sick to my stomach.”

Despite Hilde’s claims of intending to return the cash, Mrs. Caulfield’s daughter, Hannah Abbott, saw this as an admission of theft and reported it to the police. Now, Dyfed-Powys Police has launched an investigation into the matter.

Mrs. Caulfield had come to trust Holly, who originally started as a cleaner but later took on more personal care roles, including handling shopping with the bank card. This trust now feels painfully misplaced to the grieving family.

Hilde insists it was an honest mistake, saying she forgot about it due to being busy and never intended to keep the money. Nonetheless, the incident raises serious concerns about trust, especially since Hilde works closely with children.
