Once just neighbours, Mat James and his friends found themselves forming a deep bond over pints and chats at their village gem, The Cokeworks, in Beddau. This spot was much more than a pub; it was a lifeline, a place where laughter and friendship flourished every Wednesday afternoon. However, when it faced closure earlier this year, the group couldn’t bear to say goodbye.
Putting their hearts and savings on the line, the group of 11 decided to buy the pub themselves, determined to preserve their cherished community resource. With skills ranging from plumbing to electrics, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work, each member contributing to the incredible transformation into what’s now called The Coke’s Café Bar.
But The Coke’s isn’t just about reviving a watering hole; it’s about nurturing a community space for everyone. By day, it welcomes you with coffee and cake, and by night, it turns into a cosy pub setting, ready for those laughter-filled evenings with mates.
As Mat explains, “It’s not just about older men supporting each other; it’s about creating a space that everyone can enjoy.” The group has already felt the warm embrace of local support, with locals dropping by just to express their excitement and love for the renewed spot.
The Coke’s Café Bar officially opened its doors on August 15th. These inspiring gents have moved mountains to keep the costs down to give back to the community, proving that with unity, anything is possible. 💪🍻
