Heartbreaking Honeymoon Blunder! 💔✈️

Imagine this: You’ve just had the most magical wedding day and are all set for a dream honeymoon in Cyprus. But, as Joe and Beccy Barnes learned in the most unfortunate way, sometimes things don’t go as planned! 🥺
The couple, married for just a few days and filled with excitement, arrived at East Midlands Airport ready to jet off, only to be told Joe’s passport was a no-go. The culprit? A 1cm tear on the upper corner of the passport’s photo page – patched up with tape but flagged as “very badly damaged” by TUI check-in staff. Talk about a mood-killer! 😩

The 35-year-old dad, who’d flown without a hitch just weeks before, said he was blindsided by the sudden turn of events. “It felt unreal,” Joe shared. “We were at the airport for hours trying to sort it all out, hoping it was a bad dream.” While the couple attempted to explore other airline options, bad luck struck again as Jet2 also denied boarding.
Joe, the forklift driver, and his civil servant wife, are now grappling with the loss of their £1,200 honeymoon, a trip funded by wedding gift money. “We were gutted,” Joe said. “After all the joys of our wedding, it felt like everything just turned upside down.”
The couple is reaching out to TUI for explanations, but the damage is done. A TUI spokesperson confirmed the decision, citing the extent of the damage as “unacceptable for travel.”

Thanks to the kindness of others, a fundraising effort is now underway to gift Joe and Beccy a second chance at a honeymoon. Despite the disappointment, they’re keeping spirits high, hoping to book a getaway soon.
Let this serve as a reminder to check your passports, folks! Even a tiny tear could turn your dream escape into a staycation. ✈️🔍
