It was a nail-biter at Rodney Parade last night where Salford City clinched a 1-0 victory over Newport County. Despite the win, Salford’s manager, Karl Robinson, wasn’t too impressed and called the performance “not good enough.” The hero of the night? Adebola Oluwo, who volleyed home the game’s only goal in the 51st minute. But even with three golden chances to widen the score, Robinson knows his squad needs reinforcements before the transfer window closes on 1st September.
On the other side, Newport’s boss, David Hughes, was left frustrated but encouraged by a spirited performance. Despite the loss, Hughes felt his team deserved at least a draw, praising his men for keeping their heads up after Saturday’s last-minute heartbreak at Grimsby.
Newport’s keeper, Matty Young, put on a show with some incredible saves that kept the match alive. Hughes was quick to point out moments of brilliance that Newport displayed, even if they didn’t find the net. “We challenged the players to be better on the ball,” said Hughes, acknowledging the progress while lamenting the conceded goal from a set piece.
