Man Lures Child with Magic Trick to Commit Disturbing Assault as She Held onto Favorite Toy

A shocking case was unveiled at Newport Crown Court as William Chiplin, a 21-year-old from Abergavenny, was convicted of horrific crimes against a young girl. Described as having “hypnotised” his victim, Chiplin abused the child multiple times, including a distressing incident where she clung to her unicorn toy.

Judge Celia Hughes reported that Chiplin, aged between 15 and 17 during the offences, targeted the girl on numerous occasions, showing her pornographic material to normalise his actions before assaulting her. The truth came to light when the child, visibly upset while watching TV, confided in her mother about the trauma she endured.

The court also found Category A indecent images — the gravest category — on Chiplin’s phone, further highlighting his offences. The young victim bravely shared how the abuse has left lasting scars, affecting her education and view of herself. Her mother expressed the deep anxiety and trust issues her daughter now faces, saying, “The abuse stole not only her innocence but her safety and stability.”

Despite defence arguments highlighting Chiplin’s lack of previous convictions and claims of immaturity, Judge Hughes sentenced him to six years and three months in prison. Chiplin will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being released on licence. His name will remain on the sexual offender register indefinitely, and he has been given a restraining order to protect the victim.

This case serves as a chilling reminder of the severe impact such crimes have on young lives and underscores the need for continued vigilance and support for victims.
