It’s been a scorching bank holiday, and fire crews have been hard at work tackling a mountain fire above Cefn Pennar in Mountain Ash. This blaze, spotted from miles around including Cwmbach, Aberdare, and HeolGerrig in Merthyr, started around 7.30pm. With the ground bone dry after a run of hot weather and hardly any rain, conditions have been ripe for fires.

Meanwhile, Newport residents around Clifton Common, Goldcliff, are being advised to keep doors and windows shut due to a separate grass fire that ignited around 6.30pm.
