This shocking event occurred during Boxing Day 2023 at Cherry Tree care home. The victim, suffering from advanced dementia, had to be taken to hospital, sedated for an MRI scan, and later moved to another care facility. When the family learned about the assault, it understandably left them feeling “physically sick”. Despite her conviction, Goodwin still denies the charges. Her defence lawyer highlighted her previous good character and a long history of working as a carer without incident, arguing for a community-based sentence. However, the judge insisted prison was the only option due to Goodwin’s lack of remorse and insight into her actions. She has now been sentenced to 13 months behind bars and is also required to pay a statutory surcharge.
