Heartbreak in Swansea as the community mourns the sudden loss of Olivia Bettney, a vibrant 20-year-old who touched many hearts. Known for her iconic blue hair and infectious smile, Olivia sadly passed away on her mum’s birthday.

Despite battling Type 1 diabetes and enduring significant health challenges, Olivia’s dream was to bring comfort to others. After losing her father at a young age, she was inspired to study psychology and counselling at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, aiming to support children experiencing loss, just as she had. Her mum Susan fondly remembers Olivia as a “caring, beautiful soul” who always put others first.

Olivia’s compassion was well-known, and she faced her health struggles with resilience and determination. Even after losing her eyesight for a time and undergoing multiple operations, she was committed to her studies and future. Her unwavering spirit and kindness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.
Olivia was a huge Taylor Swift fan, cherished family and friends, and often enjoyed lively times on Swansea’s Wind Street with her mum beside her. Susan recalls these moments as “just lovely,” highlighting the close bond they shared, transcending generational gaps.
In honour of Olivia’s unique spirit, her family is planning a ‘quirky’ send-off featuring a blue coffin and colourful wristbands, a nod to her love for life and her unforgettable blue hair. Contributions to the memorial can support this heartfelt effort to celebrate Olivia’s life and legacy.
Though Olivia’s light went out too soon, her impact lives on through memories shared by her loved ones. An enduring reminder of her compassion and determination remains with every heart she touched. Rest in peace, Olivia.
