🌳 Trouble Stirring in Glanamman! 🌳

Residents are buzzing with concern over land clearance at the historic Amman Valley Maternity Hospital site. With plans to build 25 new homes, diggers have been spotted cutting back overgrown vegetation, causing quite a stir in the community.

Locals, including Gareth Williams, have raised red flags, worried about potential impacts on the environment—especially with areas where bats reportedly roost. Gareth, a member of the Tirycoed Campaign Group, shared his heartbreak at witnessing the digger’s work on August 21. He’s been in touch with everyone from the council to MPs, advocating for the preservation of this land.
Carmarthenshire Council is on it, investigating a possible breach of planning regulations. Dyfed-Powys Police also checked in, but found no criminal activity. The council will take further steps based on their findings.
The company behind the development, Thomas Bros, assures locals that they’re merely cutting back annual growth following years of neglect. They aim to respect the site’s natural features by including ecological buffers in their plans. They hope to make affordable homes for first-time buyers.
Meanwhile, objections have piled up, even catching the attention of Cwmaman Town Council and the Welsh Government. A decision on the fate of the old maternity hospital and its precious surroundings is pending further review.
