While the women battle for glory on the field, Gareth will be front and centre in the city, not just to cheer on the teams but to spark crucial conversations about HIV and the misconceptions that surround it. His goal? To challenge the stigma and spread knowledge that could empower and change lives.
From 11am to 4pm, Gareth will be mingling with fans in Piccadilly Gardens, making the most of a rugby-inspired hand-eye coordination passing game to create an inviting space for open chats about HIV. Gareth’s campaign, Tackle HIV, was founded with ViiV Healthcare in 2020, aiming to use the power of sport to educate and inspire positive social change. Recognising that one-third of all HIV cases in the UK involve women, Gareth is keen to dismantle the myth that HIV is solely a gay men’s issue. His mission is clear: HIV can affect anyone, and it’s time we all understood that.
