Two campers got a bit more than they bargained for when their ill-advised beach adventure turned into a lesson they won’t forget! These two set up a tent right above Pigeon Cove, known for its charming seal colony – but they didn’t read the room, or rather, the signs. The seal population there has been thriving, and disturbing them, especially during breeding season, can really cause chaos.

Ignoring warnings, the duo’s presence scared off the seals, just as the expectant females were about to bring pups into the world. Disturbing these adorable beach dwellers can have devastating consequences, like the abandonment and death of pups.

A local tour guide from Adventure Tour Snowdonia, who regularly checks in on the seals for visitors’ delight, was not amused. He watched as the campers’ oblivious behaviour left his tour group without their expected seal sighting. Apologising to his guests, he confronted the campers about the mess they made and the disruption caused.
The wardens soon got involved, ordering the pair to clear out immediately. Conwy Council confirmed that camping here is illegal due to the potential harm to wildlife – not the kind of holiday memory you want to make!
As the Great Orme is a cherished spot, now more than ever, responsible visitation is crucial. Most folks respect and value this beautiful part of the world, and it’s up to all of us to keep it special for the seals, visitors, and everyone in-between.
