Individual Manipulates Underage Student Leading to Pregnancy

A shocking case unfolded at Swansea Crown Court as Liam Peat, 25, was sentenced to 45 months in prison for sexually grooming a schoolgirl and getting her pregnant. The court heard that Peat, then 19, used Snapchat to build a secretive relationship with the 13-year-old girl. As their trust developed, the conversation turned sexual, with Peat requesting intimate photos and manipulating the young girl.

The girl, who has since found the courage to speak out, revealed how Peat’s actions made her feel “worthless” and that she had to live with the “horror” of what happened. Despite this, she has bravely decided not to let the experience define her life.

It all came to light when the girl became pregnant and told her mother, which led to a police investigation. Initially, the girl felt unable to make a formal complaint, but she later approached the authorities ready to pursue justice.

Peat, from Crynant, Neath, eventually admitted to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child just as the trial was set to begin. He claimed the encounters were consensual and that he believed the girl was of college age, though a court found this hard to swallow. He was sentenced with a recognition of his late plea, yet the judge emphasised the serious nature of his manipulation and grooming.

This case highlights the importance of speaking up and seeking support. If you or someone you know has been affected by similar issues, numerous organisations offer help, including Lifecentre, NAPAC, and Rape Crisis England & Wales.
