🚨 Jet Ski Drama in Cornwall! 🚨
A jet skier found himself in hot water after disturbing a pod of dolphins in St Austell Bay this June. The thrill-seeker decided to make waves by getting too close to these majestic creatures, even encouraging others to join in! 😲
But this wasn’t just a harmless joyride. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it’s illegal to intentionally disturb dolphins, porpoises, whales, and basking sharks. The local police stepped in, identified the individual, and issued a community protection warning. This means he’s got to keep his distance from all marine wildlife or face potential prosecution under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act. 🐬🚫
Cornwall is blessed with incredible wildlife, and we all need to do our part to protect it. Police Sergeant Martin Easter reminds us that while spotting these animals is a thrill, respecting their space is crucial. If you’re out on the water, keep at least 100 metres away from marine mammals.
