Get ready Scotland! The British Army is ramping up action with military exercises set to kick off later this month in the Scottish Borders. As tensions rise within NATO, these drills are all about making sure our forces are primed and ready for any surprises from the East.

From 15th September to 3rd October, you’ll spot military personnel in the Duns area and helicopters buzzing east of Ladykirk. Don’t be alarmed if you hear the sound of simulated gunfire; it’s all part of the plan to keep our defence sharp.

With NATO on high alert after Russian drones recently breached Polish airspace, these exercises highlight the critical importance of staying battle-ready. Poland’s recent move to invoke Article 4 of the NATO treaty underscores the seriousness of the situation, sparking high-level consultations among alliance members.
Meanwhile, over in Belarus, Russia is teaming up for ‘Zapad-2025’, showcasing its military prowess alongside Belarus. While fewer troops are involved than previous years, the exercises echo the ongoing friction between NATO and its Eastern counterparts.
It’s a stark reminder of the fragile balance, as Poland boosts its forces along the Belarusian border in anticipation of any further disruptions. Let’s hope for a peaceful resolution but rest assured, the UK’s readiness is unwavering!
