Meet Lacie John, the incredible six-year-old from Bridgend who’s not just a warrior but an academic star too! Diagnosed with leukaemia in April 2023, Lacie’s journey has been anything but easy. Despite nearly two years of intense treatment, she’s starting Year 2 at Coety Primary School as the top of her class. Her mum, Jess, shared their emotional roller coaster, recounting how Lacie’s persistent fatigue and recurring illnesses eventually led to a diagnosis that shattered their world.

Little Lacie battled through using a new immunotherapy drug โ an experience marked with challenges, like wearing a battery-powered backpack for treatment. Yet, despite sleepless nights and the constant stress of alarms, Lacie’s determination never wavered.

As she approaches the end of her treatment this November, she’s already achieved what seemed impossible. Her reading level soared from what was expected, impressively doubling by the end of the academic year, and sheโs shining in maths too. Thanks to a dedicated home tutor provided during her treatment and support at the hospital, Lacie’s been able to keep up with her peers and maintain her love for learning.
Another blessing in her journey has been her special friendship with Betsy, a school friend and fellow patient. Their bond, cultivated during shared hardships, has been a lifeline, providing comfort and companionship at school and hospital appointments alike.
Looking forward, Jess and her family are hopeful and grateful for the promising future ahead. They’ve been supported by amazing people in their community and urge everyone to back the life-saving work of Cancer Research UK, which plays a crucial role in helping children like Lacie throughout their toughest battles.
Letโs send Lacie all our support and love as she finishes her treatment and prepares to ring that victory bell, symbolising her triumph over adversity. ๐๐๐ช #LacieTheIncredible #ChildCancerAwareness #SupportCancerResearchUK
