Exciting news for library lovers in Ceredigion! 📚 The council has approved some changes for the libraries around the area. While a few branches will see a slight reduction in opening hours, there won’t be any closures at all. In fact, Aberaeron’s shiny new facility at Penmorfa is getting a boost with an extra four hours!

Why the change? As part of budget savings from last year, library services were re-evaluated, leading to tweaks in opening times but no major job losses. Aberystwyth might lose four hours, but it remains the champion of opening times at 46.5 hours a week. Other changes include a 1.5-hour cut in Cardigan and an hour less in Lampeter.
During the summer, senior councillors came together to review these proposed changes. Councillor Catrin Davies assured everyone that the adjustments will streamline services without drastic impacts on staffing. Plus, the enhanced Aberaeron library will also cover additional duties, delivering better service for locals and improving overall efficiency.

These updates bring the total hours across the main libraries from 165.5 to 164.5 per week. Though it’s a tiny adjustment, the council believes this will result in a more efficient and cost-effective service for everyone.
So, if you’re planning a library visit, be sure to check the new timings and enjoy the revamped services. Happy reading! 📖✨
