Three people unleashed a terrifying attack resembling a “pack of wild animals” at a block of flats in Swansea. Abiquani Hassan was left battered after being assaulted with a claw hammer, a bottle, and boots. The chaos erupted when Hassan went to Deborah Delaney’s flat intending to buy drugs. After posting £20 through her letterbox, he received nothing in return.
Frustrated and knocking for answers, Hassan was met with violence when Delaney, accompanied by Joshua Bassett and Jamie Davies, descended from upstairs. Delaney smashed a bottle over Hassan’s head, followed by Davies’ brutal claw hammer assault, while Bassett joined the frenzy by kicking and punching Hassan. One witness reportedly warned Hassan he could have been stabbed, and racial slurs were hurled at him amidst the chaos.
Injured, bleeding, and frightened, Hassan escaped to a friend’s house, where he called for help. He was rushed to the hospital with a head wound, broken finger, and bruises. Following the attack, Delaney and Bassett were quickly arrested, while Davies faced the music a few days later.
Their violent outburst drew stern words from the judge at Swansea Crown Court. He declared living in the Griffith John Street flats as a “complete nightmare,” with violence often casting a shadow over the residents’ lives. All three defendants were slammed with 27-month prison sentences after pleading guilty. Delaney and Bassett also faced additional charges for carrying weapons.
Bassett, Delaney, and Davies all have lengthy criminal records, spanning offenses like burglary, drug possession, and assault. Despite their troubling pasts, each is set to serve part of their sentence in custody before eventual release on licence.
