The Canary Islands government has issued a state of pre-alert due to dust storms and rising temperatures this week, impacting all the islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote. A yellow alert from Aemet, Spain’s meteorological service, warns of the infamous ‘calima’—dust from the Sahara Desert—which may sweep across the islands.
Expect visibility to drop to just 3,000m, mostly affecting southern areas and coastal spots. Temperatures could soar up to 37°C in Gran Canaria, with other islands also feeling the heat up to 34°C.
