Exciting news in Welsh rugby! Former Cardiff coach Dai Young is stepping into a new role as head of performance at Cardiff Metropolitan University. This marks a fresh chapter for the former Wales and Lions prop, who’s been busy since his return to rugby in March 2024. Dai had been leading the charge at Cardiff & Vale College Rugby Academy and even teamed up with ex-Wales international Scott Baldwin at Bridgend, while also coaching his local club, Aberdare.
Cardiff Met has been riding high with recent on-field successes, and now with Dai on board, they’re set to aim even higher. The university recently witnessed their director of rugby systems, Gareth Baber, heading off to take the reins at French club Nice Rugby. Dai might not be a direct swap for Baber, but he sure brings a hefty dose of rugby wisdom to the table.
After parting ways with Cardiff following some unfounded bullying allegations, Dai is ready to move forward and make his mark once again. His storied coaching career includes taking Wasps to Premiership finals and having multiple stints with elite teams like the Barbarians. Before he donned the coaching hat, Dai had an impressive 14-year playing career with spells at Swansea and Cardiff, plus three memorable tours with the Lions.
Here’s to a thrilling season ahead with Dai Young bringing his expertise to Cardiff Met! 🏉✨
