**From Thrush Scare to Cancer Warrior: Patrick’s Unbelievable Journey**
Meet Patrick Howard, the dad from Liverpool who’s defying the odds! Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, Patrick thought he’d left his health woes behind after surgery. But in April 2020, pesky itching and redness led him to think he had thrush. A later diagnosis revealed the shocking truth: he had an aggressive form of penile cancer caused by HPV. His world rocked, Patrick joked, “Are they going to chop it off?” The answer was tough but clear. Doctors suggested a penectomy, and he bravely underwent surgery to remove two-thirds of his penis.
Despite the initial prognosis of just 12 months to live, Patrick’s determination and groundbreaking treatments—like radiotherapy and intense chemotherapy—have kept him fighting strong. Now, nearly two years since he last received treatment, Patrick is living proof of survival beyond expectations. With September 20th marking International Penile Cancer Awareness Day, he’s passionate about encouraging men to speak up and shed the stigma around such intimate cancers.
His incredible journey has not only been about cancer but rediscovery. He and his wife Laura continue cherishing life, traveling to Italy, Corfu, and skiing in the Alps, ensuring every day is full of adventure and love. “We’ve only grown stronger,” he says of their relationship, despite concerns over intimacy post-surgery.
