In a heartfelt tribute, the community of Donabate came together to honour the memory of young Daniel Aruebose. Human remains were discovered during a search for Daniel, missing for several years, sparking deep sorrow in the local area. He would have been just seven years old.

Sunday saw a poignant vigil at Donabate Green, where blue and white balloons floated skywards as candles flickered below. Poems and prayers filled the air, wrapping attendees in a shared moment of remembrance. The event, movingly organised by senior citizens, drew people together to share in the grief and show solidarity with each other.
Local councillor Corina Johnston described the atmosphere as emotional, yet comforting, with the town’s close-knit spirit shining through. “We all needed to come together to support one another,” she shared tearfully. “Seeing the outpouring of love and support truly brings home how much Daniel touched our community.”

The location of the remains, near a familiar sports complex, has spurred suggestions for a future memorial to honour Daniel’s memory. While it’s early days, the community’s desire to remember him is evident.
For many who gathered, this tragic discovery serves as a painful reminder of life’s fragility. Yet, through tears and shared stories, Donabate’s people have shown a beautiful resilience, choosing to come together to honour Daniel’s short life and ensure he is never forgotten.
