🎭 Exciting news for theatre lovers and Welsh speakers! This November, for the very first time, the Welsh language will grace the stage at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Theatr Cymru is set to present a captivating new bilingual production of Romeo and Juliet, mingling Shakespeare’s timeless English with the beauty of Welsh.
Kicking off at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre on 29th September, this innovative take on the classic tale explores themes of conflict and connection through the lens of modern Welsh identity. It’s a fresh spin on the tale of the Montagues and the Capulets, blending speech and cultures to offer audiences a unique theatrical experience.
Directed by Steffan Donnelly, this production features a talented cast, with Steffan Cennydd and Isabella Colby Browne in the lead roles. After its Welsh tour, it will make its way to the renowned Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Globe between 5-8 November 2025.
For theatre fans who prefer accessibility, bilingual open captions will be available, and a BSL performance is scheduled at the Sherman Theatre on 1st October. All London performances offer closed captions through Theatr Cymru’s language access app, Sibrwd.
