Tragic Turn: Unfortunate Demise of Individual Following Battle with Flu-Like Illness

Tragic news as we remember 20-year-old Josh Abbott-Littler, a brave soul who battled cancer with grace and a smile. After ringing the “all clear” bell in May 2024, Josh’s family was overjoyed. Despite being fit and well, a sudden turn of events changed everything. This June, Josh developed flu-like symptoms and, heartbreakingly, passed away on June 26, 2025, due to sepsis from a bacterial infection.

Josh’s journey began during his first year at Lancaster University when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. His fight included rigorous treatments at The Christie cancer centre, where he received chemo and proton beam therapy. Just a year later, after celebrating his victory over cancer, Josh’s world was turned upside down again when he fell ill. He was eventually diagnosed with treatment-induced acute myeloid leukaemia—a rare consequence of the very treatments that helped him before.

Josh’s family, crushed by their loss, is channelling their grief into a positive action, honouring his memory by raising funds for Young Lives vs Cancer. This charity, which stood by Josh and his family through thick and thin, will benefit from a heartfelt nine-hour walk from Wigan to Southport. The goal was to raise £1,000, but the overwhelming support has provided solace and strength during such a difficult time.

Rebecca, Josh’s aunt, speaks fondly of him: “A beautiful, intellectual soul, full of life, who loved music and chess.” The family’s efforts are not just about fundraising but keeping Josh’s spirit alive. They hope to make this an annual event and are planning something special to mark what would have been his 21st birthday in January.

Josh’s story is one of courage, resilience, and love—a reminder of the importance of supporting those facing the toughest battles.
