Big moments ahead for the Dragons! 🐉✨ This Friday, the Men of Gwent kick off their United Rugby Championship campaign in Belfast against Ulster, and it’s a special occasion for second-row Matthew Screech. Screech is set to join an exclusive club by making his 200th appearance for the Dragons, following in the footsteps of former captain Lewis Evans. What an incredible achievement for a player who’s given so much to the club!
After a challenging season last year, finishing at the bottom, the Dragons are eager to rise again. They’ve bolstered their squad with fresh talent, and head coach Filo Tiatia is optimistic about turning over a new leaf. The starting lineup features competitive debuts for three new signings: Wyn Jones, Rob Hunt, and fly-half Tinus de Beer. We’re also seeing seasoned players like co-captains Ben Carter and Angus O’Brien, alongside Welsh internationals Aaron Wainwright, Shane Lewis-Hughes, and Elliot Dee.
With four more potential debuts on the bench, the Dragons are ready to battle it out and showcase their determination. Coach Tiatia is excited for the clash against Ulster, acknowledging their strong lineup but confident in what his team can bring to the field.
“We’ve improved during pre-season, and although there’s work to be done, we’re excited for the challenge. It’s all set for a big opening weekend,” Tiatia shared.
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to rugby, this season’s start promises intensity and excitement. Let’s get behind the Dragons and cheer them on to greater heights! 🏉🔥
